Lesson summary

What this lesson covers

In ClerkDirect, a board is the roster of people connected to a meeting body, whether that is a city council, committee, or another group. This lesson shows how to create a board, add workspace members, assign their roles and service dates, and optionally import a member list from CSV.

All right, creating a board. So one of the first things that you might want to do in ClerkDirect is create a board. And just to be clear, a board in ClerkDirect is not actually necessarily a board in your city. Moreover, it is just a list of people that belong to a meeting. So that might be the committee in a committee of the whole meeting; that might be the council in a city council meeting. The generic term for that in ClerkDirect is boards.

And so what you could do is, on the left-hand sidebar here, you can click Boards. And I already have one for City Council, but let's make a new one. You can click Add Board, and then you can name your board. So let's just say Test Committee is the name of our board. So we click that, and we see that show up there. And if I click Open Board for Test Committee, we see information about this board. So we have zero current members. We have no meetings scheduled because I just created this board.

So what you would want to do is add members here. Click Add Member, and here you can search for a user in your actual workspace. So these would be people who have already been invited to your ClerkDirect organization. And if I type my own name in here, we can see me. And then you can give them a role. So let's just say I'm the chairman. And then an optional start and end date if you want to. You can also import a CSV, comma-separated value, list of members as well. But I'm just going to click Add Member, and there we are.

So that is how you add members to a board. And we'll see in the next video how, when you're creating meetings, you can assign a board to a meeting. So we'll use this board in a later meeting.
